What if the greatest secret of your life was not what you did, but what you kept silent about?

Daniel Sandoval lives in Bergen, Norway, with a family that loves him but has never fully understood the weight of the shadows he carries. Then a letter arrives from Chile, pulling him back to a past long buried in fear: a trial for crimes committed during the dictatorship, a name he swore never to speak again, and the echo of a childhood scarred by state violence.

As the archives of the past are opened in Santiago, his wife and children in Norway come to realise that the life they have shared with him has only ever revealed the surface.

Silence is a choral, intimate, and profoundly human novel, a story of memory, guilt, and the secrets we inherit.
Christian Asevedo

Christian Asevedo

Christian Asevedo was born in San Fernando, Chile, in 1974. In April 1988, he emigrated with his family to Norway.

He has worked since 2001 at the TORO factory, part of the Orkla group, where he is also an active trade union representative and a member of his sections negotiating committee. He is married to Jessica Ramírez, also Chilean, and in 2005 they became a family together with their son Diego, born in Puerto Aysén in 2002 and adopted through a process that deeply marked their lives.

Reading has been an essential part of his personal journey, thanks to the influence of his father. Silence is his first novel. He wrote this book driven by a vital need: to tell an intimate story that blends passages from his own life with the collective memory of Chile over the past five decades. Influenced by authors such as Santiago Posteguillo and Ildefonso Falcones, his greatest passion is history books, and although he has yet to define a literary style of his own, his narrative voice is marked by emotional truth, memory, and the desire to understand what we leave unspoken.
